There are many, many ways to help our bodies become more metabolically efficient – which will serve us well if we wish to run for years to come, not to mention maintain good health for running presently. One of my favourite strategies has been to switch over from a heavy carb-based breakfast to a fat-based breakfast, to help train the body to burn more fatty acids for fuel (become more metabolically efficient). This is only one of many strategies – and it won’t appeal to everyone… But don’t knock it until you try it! I used a version of Paleo Matcha for years to regain my hormonal health, become more metabolically efficient and see PB’s and epic performance in my early 40’s.
