Yep, you can make your own sports gels! And with chia, to boot 🙂 And it tastes really delish too! Chia seeds have been the secret of the Azteks and Mayans strength and endurance for years… But we’ve caught on and are using their secrets now too!
The fresh squeezed orange juice and honey offer great carbohydrates to energize you and the coconut water and sea salt take care of the electrolytes. Chia seeds add a touch of protein along with the ‘gelling’ factor.
This mix offers about 200 calories (primarily carbs), which is equal to two of your average gels.
- ½ cup coconut water
- 1½ Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1 Tbsp honey
- pinch sea salt
- Whisk all ingredients in a bowl, let sit for 20 minutes, whisk again and then put in a to-go container to have on the run.
